The Arab Network for Literacy and Adult Education

The Arab Network for Literacy and Adult Education (ANLAE) was established in 1999 in Egypt to support NGOs and public associations in the Arab region to enable them to play an active role in literacy and adult education issues. The two main objectives are:
  • to encourage establishment of new associations at the grassroots level, that includes the concerned persons from the target group;
  • to connect the Network's activities at the local, national and regional levels with similar activities at the regional and international level.
The main priorities of ANLAE are to activate the NGOs and Associations by:
  • setting a strategy to escalate the work in the field of literacy and adult education in the framework of continuous education;
  • coordinating among the NGOs, associations, Arab agencies and official institutions to include the concept of partnership in planning, implementing and follow up;
  • giving special attention to the problem of girl drop-outs from basic education; and
  • creating an interactive mechanism among NGOs associations/institutions that work in training and education and mass media.
