2.- ICAE Thematic Virtual Seminar –
April 21 to May 9, 2008
--
Sad News
We have received the sad news about the recent passing away of Margaret Kidd. On behalf of ICAE we would like to express our most sincere condolences for the decease of the wife of a well-known Canadian adult educator J. Roby Kidd, whose contribution to ICAE, through the J.Roby Kidd award, is widely recognized and appreciated. In 1973 the ICAE came into being with Roby Kidd as Secretary General for six years. Throughout his life he remained actively involved, donating his time and services to ICAE and the adult education movement.
And, as the proverb says, "Behind every great man there is a great woman", therefore, we would like to recall Margaret Kidd as a strongly committed and devoted adult educator whose contribution to adult education is very much appreciated.
Our deepest sympathies to her family.
Best regards,
Paul Bélanger Celita Eccher President Secretary General

The main objective of the workshop is “to provide advocacy tools for citizens' watch with a view to CONFINTEA VI”.
This workshop will provide different spaces for reflection on what advocacy means, and how we should get prepared, and act jointly and in a coordinated way towards CONFINTEA VI. Background information will be provided on the history of CONFINTEA, and the organizational process that UIL has already put in motion, in preparation of the Conference in 2009: the Consultative Group of CONFINTEA VI, and the Global Expert Group of CONFINTEA VI Benchmarks on Adult Education and Learning. In this sense, the concept of benchmarks will be introduced to start a reflection on the challenges and constraints of the process of developing international benchmarks on adult education. The development of benchmarks will be analyzed and evaluated in terms of its strategic and political potential for advocacy purposes.
The workshop is mainly aimed for ICAE national members, members of our Gender and Education Office and graduates of ICAE Academy of Lifelong Learning Advocacy (IALLA) from countries of West and Central Africa (Cap Vert, Chad, Niger, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea Conakry, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Centro African Republic) plus special invitees from Senegal and Africa.
We will be sharing with you soon the outcomes of this important workshop.
ICAE is organizing a virtual seminar, with a view to CONFINTEA VI, that will be held from April 21 to May 9.

4.- DATE FOR YOUR DIARY: Adult Learner’s Festival 2009: 2nd to 6th of February
Ciara
Murphy The third annual AONTAS Adult Learner’s Festival will take place the first week of spring 2008 (February 2 – 6). Once again, the festival will be coordinated and promoted nationally by AONTAS, with the support and participation of our members and various adult and community education groups throughout the country. AONTAS hope to expand and improve the Adult Learners' Festival 2009. We have already started preparing for next year's festival and once again, we need your help! Our aim is to celebrate adult learning and the achievements of adult learners, to showcase the work of adult education providers and to ensure adult education is placed firmly on the political agenda. The Adult Learners’s Festival 2009 will only be a success if we have both a national and local dimension and we would encourage everyone involved in adult and community education groups to participate. We will be sending out information in relation to the festival in the coming months. If your organisation would like to become involved in the 2009 festival, please contact AONTAS on 01-4068220, E-mail: mail@aontas.com
5.- The International Women's day clip of GCAP women campaigning around the world
Sarah
Gregory
Dear IFT members
The
International Women's day clip of GCAP women campaigning around the world is
now up on www.whiteband.org and on
youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agP0W_kdpgw
The slideshow on whiteband.org is high res and does not work for everyone, so we have linked to the youtube site underneath which is easier to play. If people want to use the high res version for events or their websites I can email it through. I can also edit it to suit national contexts or reference national websites if needed.
Thanks and best,
Sarah Gregory Global Call to Action Against Poverty - GCAP Mobilisation / Outreach Coordinator sarah.gregory@civicus.org skype: sarahgregory1
