ERGON K.E.K. is a center for vocational training based in Athens, Greece. A civic non-profit organization, its Board of Directors is composed of scientists with great experience in training projects, particularly in vocational training. Among the training personnel involved in different projects, there are more than 120 university graduates - many with masters and doctorate degrees and other with great experience in technical matters.
Founded in January 1995, it is also a founding member of the Greek Association of Professional Training Centre and Companies. In the period 1999-2001, it has implemented a large number of the Greek Ministry of Labour's vocational training programmes, as well as European Union initiatives like Integra, Youthstart, Adapt, Now, Leonardo da Vinci and Equal.
Some of its many projects include:
An open and distance learning programme for men and women returnees with management experience as volunteers;
Vocational training for women of minority groups. Tools for the recuperation and transmission of traditional occupations, aiming to promote the equality of opportunities for gypsy women who suffer a double exclusion due to their gender condition;
Women and contemporary arts in the adult education centers;
A project in favour of women asylum seekers and refugees, victims of gender-related violence;
Access for disadvantaged adults to education through porfolio techniques. The project aims to develop an innovative extension of methodology of Accreditation for Prior Learning (APL) as a means of promoting access for disadvantaged adults into the formal education system;
Supporting the development of new learning pathways for adults. This project, based on a cross-sectoral partnership, will provide an overview of lifelong learning strategies, which encourage the adaptation and transfer of information and practice to formal and informal approaches, as well as to different sectors of education and training and the relevant professions.
