Dear all,
Thanks for the words of encouragement and the comments that have started to
arrive. Some examples are the message from Bilal from
Pakistan, the one from Moema from Brazil and the
one from Fernanda from Senegal. We apologize if
there is some delay in the inclusion of the contributions to the list but
this has to do with the time differences and the time that it takes to
translate into the three languages. But we think it's worth the waiting for
the opportunity that everyone has to participate from the various regions.
We hope that we will all learn from this exchange.

Adult Literacy - Contribution of
Moema Viezzer on Adult Literacy Challenge
from Brasil
Dear virtual colleagues,
In the context in which this seminar is taking place, I would like to
emphasize something important in relation to the challenges faced by adult
literacy.
The suggestion is to include the socio-environmental approach into literacy
together with the other items named in the emerging contexts (that of
migration, knowledge-based society, globalisation and the need to understand
an international language, the renovation of ethnic identities and other
events that require information that is fast, accurate and reflected on
texts. All this makes it imperative to continue with interventions in
relation to adult literacy. Otherwise, adults, and specially women from the
most vulnerable sectors, will remain marginalised and even completely
excluded from development and democracy).
Topics such as: climate change, global warming, water as the source of life
and not a commodity to be privatised, etc., could be motivating themes for
adult education and must be made explicit in these contexts.
Concepts like ecological literacy, eco pedagogy, pedagogy of the earth and
environmental education, learning for transformation through environmental
action, all need to be included in the training of adult educators.
Hugs,
Moema L. Viezzer
Maria Fernanda RAMOS d'ALMEIDA
from
Senegal
Hello,
I am Fernanda Ramos d'ALMEIDA, charter member of PAALAE and former
responsible for the Portuguese speaking are.
I am a Cap Verdean living in Senegal and with my community, I am
experiencing situations in which policies, plans and programs, mainly in
those socioeconomic, even economic and financial sectors don’t have much
into account the needs of our community of migrants and of other migrants in
general, the stands offered are also little operational for visibility,
sensitization and IEC program. I have already sent some comments, but my
goal would be to see how to implement a program for migrant adults education
in Africa and particularly for women in sensitive areas like health,
education, entrepreneurship, handicraft, environment, rights and citizens
participation on the basis of implementing an African network of migrants
that could identify the problems they face.
Here in Senegal young people from Cape Verde of the third generation,
generally born here, have huge problems, for instance, to obtain the Cap
Verdean identity documents, but also those of Senegal; old people are not
taken into account socially, nor by their country of origin, neither by the
country that receives them, it would seem that in Africa there are no social
policies for African migrants, apart from the problems for the visas.
Problems are really huge and only a proactive synergy could possibly
activate a process of solution.
Thank you, I congratulate you and send you all my support for the success of
adults education.
Fernanda
