The participation in this seminar only requires to check the e-mail daily and read the papers (no more than one or two pages), and the comments and inputs from the participants. We will elaborate summaries per issue and per group in order to better organize the material and prevent a huge amount of messages arriving to your e-mail boxes.

If you are interested in participating, please send an e-mail to voicesrising@icae.org.uy with the subject "subscribe", and we will register you in the list.

We look forward to your participation.

GEO Virtual Seminar
"Education for inclusion throughout life"
Preparatory process towards CONFINTEA V + 6

Paving the way to Bangkok

Welcome to the seminar

Who would say that six years went by already since many of us participating in this seminar met in Hamburg?.
CONFINTEA V marked a significant change in relation to the issue of women’s right to lifelong learning. Two years after CONFINTEA a meeting in Manila was held, and a first approach to the follow up to the commitments assumed in Hamburg by governments was made. Within this context, GEO-REPEM presented their first report related to the advance or backward movement of women’s right to education. In order to make this possible, a set of indicators was elaborated, which enabled us to collect data from the governments on the policies aimed at the fulfilment of the commitments assumed in Hamburg.

Over these past six years, GEO has been very active. It has participated in almost every conference organized by UN during that period, and always with the same objective take the message and language of CONFINTEA to each and every space for reflection and debate. This participation permitted to understand better and more clearly that everything is related and that currently none of the problems we have to face can be solved from one and only sector, scenario, or actor.

We know that we trace the path while walking, and walk we do. This seminar that opens today is proof of this. While being aware of the complexity and fragility of the world we live in, we intend to begin a new walk.

The general theme of this seminar is "Education for inclusion throughout life". It starts today, July 14th, and closes on August 1st. The objectives of this seminar are three-fold

1.- To evaluate the path we walked and outline the path we want to trace while walking from a perspective of justice in gender relations,
2.- to promote discussion and exchange of reflections, experiences and proposals for young and adult education in an other possible world.
3.- to analyze in-depth the learnings for non-discrimination and inclusion in different spaces and throughout life.

In order to make it more operational and dynamic, we have organized three discussion groups. Each one of them will feature different inputs aimed to open and center the debate. From here onwards, the development of this instance will depend on us all, on those who present papers, and on those who read them and reflect upon them.

After the closure of the seminar, all the inputs and conclusions will be gathered and published in a book that will be presented at CONFINTEA V +6, which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, next September.

Welcome! We wish you find this experience interesting, thought provoking, and above all, funny. (Please find attached the programme)
