CAMPAIGN FOR THE RIGHT TO LIFELONG LEARNING

Testimonies

We wish to invite all our members and friends to send their thoughts, ideas, initiatives, experiences and activities on the importance that learning or being educated has for adult people. Share your stories about the significance of learning (not only how to read and write) in developing the capability to carry out new skills. Send your material to icae@icae.ca, and we will distribute it to our networks and put it up on our website. We thank you very much for your co-operation.

From Ingrid Brundin, Information Secretary, The Swedish National Board of Adult Education

"Swedish liberal adult education is unique - free from government intervention and with its roots in popular movements. It contributes to raising the level of education, to bridging the gaps in learning level, to broadening the interest in culture, and to increasing people's social commitment. That is, to strengthen and develop democracy.

Our collaboration with groups and organisations in other countries and the fact that we have more and more immigrant participants have both meant that adult education in Sweden has become increasingly international and multicultural.

Here are three examples taken from our brochure 'Learning with a difference'."
